Weightlifting Technical Officials Stephen Donovan and Darren Rogers volunteer for Weightlifting Wales, British Weightlifting and Strength Academy Wales.
Over 6 years ago, Darren Rogers and Stephen Donovan regained their interest in Weightlifting. Captured while helping out at a small level competition in Pembrokeshire.
Darren had previous experience in playing Rugby and back in the 1980’s used Weightlifting to strength train for his sport. In the same era Stephen competed in Weightlifting, like Darren he trained at Haverfordwest Weightlifting club and also competed in a number of Welsh Championships, British Championships and a few competitions representing Wales, aswell as playing Rugby.
Over the past number of years, both Darren and Stephen have been the leading Technical Officials for the National Governing Body – Weightlifting Wales.
They have officiated in many Welsh and British competitions, throughout all age groups. Both have taken on different roles such as M/C, Chief Marshall, lead official, referee and officiating manager. Both also help out greatly at grass root level events.
Both Darren and Stephen are always fully committed in making the events run as smoothly and efficiently as possible, they do that little bit extra, always arriving first to help set up equipment and leaving last to help clear up.
Both officials have not only immersed themselves in Officiating qualifications, but have also attended National Coaching courses up to level 2, to develop their knowledge of the sport.
Darren and Stephen have worked up to their International Officiating qualification and are now hoping to gain experience at International competitions.
Their hard work, time given to the sport and professionalism is always appreciated
