What a fantastic performance by Gary Phillips, Network Inspector at Dwr Cymru / Welsh Water, who is a valued member of both Unison Cymru / Wales and of Strength Academy Wales.

Gary teamed up with his training partner Julian James a teacher from Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard. At all Strength Academy Wales have been extremely impressed with Gary’s and Julian’s fantastic commitment to developing their own health, fitness and well-being, their support to other club members has been fantastic and their support to help our organisation raise funds for our forthcoming charity work in the community of Pembrokeshire has also been well noted.

4 months ago, both began attending the 6.30am fitness classes at Strength Academy Wales and what a transformation we have seen since then. Having met for the first time at the fitness classes, they soon teamed up and attended our Open Gym sessions, pushing each other through fitness and strength exercises. When we announced that our volunteers were organising a fundraising event both were extremely keen to help out.

Training sessions for Gary and Julian were changed and focused towards the events at the Strength Festival. Both have made remarkable progress, from learning new lifting techniques and lifting low amounts of weight when they first began training we were astonished to see them hit Personal Bests in the festival

Gary – Squat 140kg and Deadlift 150kg

Julian – Clean and Push Press 90kg and Bench Press 123kg

With a grand total of 503kg.

Well Done to you both. Keep up the good work, we are all very proud of you.

Unison Cymru / Wales have already donated a sum of money to aid our health, fitness and social prescribing programme and we were also fortunate that Unison Cymru / Wales were able to support the Festival even further by donating Unison merchandise products for the event

Thank you very mush Unison Cymru / Wales we are very grateful for your support.
