Teams of 18 athletes from each county, Wales, Scotland and Ireland competed on 30th November, battling against each other to secure the highest number of team points to try and win the event.

5 of Pembrokeshire’s most talented Weightlifters played key roles ensuring the Welsh National team secured a team win at the recent Celtic Nations. 

The youngest Welsh Team member, Daniel Davies, competing above his age category for this event, was joined 2 other u17’s from North Wales to make up the Welsh Boys Youth Team.

The Welsh Girls Youth team, again saw representation from Pembrokeshire with 2 very talented athletes, Mena Williams and Lotty Whalley, again both competing above their usually age category, joined by a team mate from Cardiff to create the squad of 3 at this event.

James Hart and Chloe Hood represented the Junior teams, being the u20 category.

Daniel Davies broke Welsh and British u15 records with impressive technique and weight lifted. Snatch 68kg / Clean and Jerk 87kg.

Mena Williams performed exceptionally well gaining personal bests in the Snatch of 50kg and 64kg in the Clean and Jerk.

Demonstrating levels of power and proficiency, Lotty Whalley secured a 53kg Snatch and a 70kg Clean and Jerk.

Impressive lifting by Chloe Hood achieved a 69kg Snatch and a huge 90kg Clean and Jerk.

James Hart demonstrated outstanding character and commitment following a difficult Snatch phase, gaining 103kg, he went on to make a personal best in the Clean and Jerk of 134kg.

The training squad at SAW, is now working towards the next event to be Held in Haverfordwest on Saturday 1st February. This event is called the Weightlifting Wales ‘National Qualifier’ 

The sport of Weightlifting continues to grow in Pembrokeshire and there are fantastic opportunities to become involved both at Strength Academy Wales and at South Pembs Weightlifting Club. Both centres are fully inclusive and open their doors to invite individuals of all ages, all backgrounds and all abilities to enjoy the many health and wellbeing benefits of training within a supportive and friendly environment.
