Held on Friday 5th July at Sport Wales National Sports Centre, there was a large contingent from Pembrokeshire competing in the Gemau Cymru.

The event being organised a little different from usual weightlifting competitions, with medals being awarded to those youths and Juniors demonstrating the best technical efficiency 

The Pembrokeshire competitors were:-

Caitlyn McGrath U12 20kg total

Lexi Thomas U12 68kg total and best technical U12 lifter

Ffion Barnikel U15 68kg total

Lotty Whalley u15 118kg total

Mena Williams U15 102kg total and best technical u15 lifter

Chloe Hood U20 159kg total and best technical u20 lifter

Cai Owen U12 56kg total

Daniel Davies U15 136kg lifter and best technical u15 lifter

Iolo Griffiths U15 85kg total

Dewi jackson U15 90kg total

Kyle Colella U17 and best U17 technical lifter

Daniel Davies was also the Weightlifting Wales ambassador for the 2019 Gemau Cymru.

Chloe Hood broke her own British Snatch record of 72kg. 

The Gemau Cymru event was also well attended by volunteer Technical Officials from Pembrokeshire and around the UK. 

Both Weightlifting centres in Pembrokeshire, Strength Academy Wales and South Pembs Weightlifting Club, run a well established programme developing junior members, where there is a key focus in developing the person and the athlete in supportive and inclusive environments

Strength Academy Wales is also running a Junior Summer Camp, throughout the length of the School Holidays, three mornings per week. The Summer camp has been discounted to £2.00 per session, keeping fitness affordable for the Pembrokeshire community. The usual fitness class price is £4.50.

The summer camp is open to all from the secondary age group and entails the following:-

A variety of fitness activities suitable for teenagers, incorporating group workouts, partner workouts, body weight exercises, core and trunk strength and posture development, mobility enhancement, strength and power development through light resistance.

All abilities are welcome Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10am for one hour.
